Who are you?
I go by the handle Ephemeralis on most things these days. My real name is David Sinclair, considerably less impressive.
I’m just about to start my thirties and I’m not exactly thrilled at the prospect. I was born in Australia and have lived here all my life, and don’t intend to leave any time soon.
What do you do?
I’ve spent the entirety of my working life involved in osu! as a volunteer, then paid contributor in varying degrees, since 2009. I completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology at a reputable Australian university but ultimately decided that the profession was not for me.
When not spending time helping people click circles, I’ve also been involved in the development of a few neat projects like:
- The “Era” classic world for the PC version of Graal Online from 2005~ to about 2008 as a volunteer coder
- A Space Station 13 server by the name of Yogstation 13 from 2014 to 2016 as a “lead developer”
- An unnamed commerical MUD in the top 5 monthly active users ranking from 2017 to 2019 as a volunteer creator
What do you do for fun?
I play a lot of video games. Especially of the MMORPG variety.
I am so committed to the idea of MMORPGs that I am even one of the insane few people left to dabble in text-based ones, more officially known as MUDs. I have played so many of these that there are genuinely no more public ones with active players left for me to try. It is a bit of a habit.
Outside of gaming, I am an enthusiastic reader of primarily fantasy and occasionally moonlight as a short story writer with a “penchant for the atmospheric and dramatic” as per the review of a previous colleague.
Sometimes (and by sometimes I mean a lot), these two hobbies combine in the field of roleplay, which is where I like to spend most of my free time when suitable spaces for it present themselves.
I was introduced to TTRPGs a few years back by a group of friends and have become hopelessly addicted to them since, particularly Pathfinder 1e and lately, D&D 5e. I have recently been conscripted into the forever DM position by my loving cohort of friends, and have hosted several campaigns totalling well into the thousands of hours of gameplay.
Why would I want to read any of this or anything else you post?
That’s an excellent question. Have fun answering it!
